Answers to March 2 Questions

How many men were sent to spy out the land of Canaan? 12 (one from each tribe)

What were they to bring back with them? Some of the fruit from the land

How many days were they gone? 40

When the spies returned, what did Caleb suggest that the people do? Go and take the land

How did the other spies respond to his suggestion? They disagreed and told the people that the Canaanites were too great to defeat

How did the people respond to the bad report of the majority of the spies? They believed them and wept that night; they wanted to return to Egypt

Which two spies tried to persuade the people to believe in God? Joshua and Caleb

What did the people want to do to them? Stone them

What was the Lord’s initial reaction to Israel’s faithlessness? To strike them all down and start a new nation with Moses

What did Moses say in interceding for Israel? The nations who have heard from the Egyptians about God’s greatness would say that God was not able to get Israel through the desert safely to Canaan, so He killed them in the wilderness

What was Israel’s punishment for their faithlessness? To wander in the wilderness for a total of forty years

What happened to the spies who brought the bad report and discouraged the people? They died by a plague from God
