Answers to March 15 Questions

What was Israel to utterly destroy when they enter Canaan? All the places and objects used in the worship of idolatry

Where were the Israelites to offer their tithes, sacrifices, etc.? the place where God chooses to put His Name

What does having only one place of worship tell us about God? He Himself is one God

Could Israel eat meat whenever and wherever they wanted? yes

Could they offer their sacrifices, even free-will sacrifices wherever they wanted? no

What is forbidden in 12:31? Human sacrifices

Is it possible for a false prophet to perform a miraculous sign? yes

Does a powerful sign mean that we should believe in the one who performed it? no

Why would God allow a false prophet to perform a sign (see 13:3)? To test their loyalty to Him

Which relatives are listed in the command forbidding idolatry? Brother, wife, son, daughter, or good friend

If Israel hears that idolatry is being practiced in one of their towns, what is the first step they are to take? Investigate the report to confirm it

What must they do if the report is proven to be true? Kill all the living (even animals and burn everything, that the town never be rebuilt

What is forbidden in 14:1? Not to cut themselves or shave the fron of their head for the dead

Why were the Israelites to take their tithes to a single place chosen by God? They are to eat these things in the Lord’s presence and learn to fear God

What were the Israelites to do if they were too far away from the place God had chosen? They could liquidate their tithe (convert it to money so they could carry it more easily) then spend that money on the animals to eat in worship to God

What did the Israelites do with their tithe every three years? Store it up for the Levite and for the needy (travelers and widows and the fatherless)

When were Hebrews to cancel the debts of their brothers? After 7 years

Could a man redeem his debt? yes

What was the time limit of servitude? Six years

What was the master to do when he released the servant? Give him an abundance of food and livestock to sustain himself

What was a man to do if he wanted to be a servant for life? The master was to pierce his ear

How did the Hebrews dedicate the firstborn of their animals (from the flocks and herds)? They are to eat it

Could the Hebrews offer animals with defects? no

Could the Hebrews eat animals with defects? yes
