Psalm 111
Where does the psalmist praise the Lord? in the assembly of the upright
For what is God being praised? His works, His faithfulness to the covenant
Who has wisdom? Those who fear the Lord and keep His commandments
Psalm 112
Who is blessed? The one who fears God and delights in His commandments
How is he blessed? Verse 2 implies his descendants will be upright; v. 3 says wealth will be in his house; he will have honor
How does he act? He is merciful to the needy; he uses discretion
How does he think? He is not afraid; he trusts in God; he is steadfast
Psalm 113
What is to be praised? The name of the Lord
What does God do? He lifts up the poor and needy and exalts them to be with princes; He blesses women without children (similar to Luke 1)
Psalm 114
When did Israel become God’s special people? When Israel left Egypt
Why did the Red Sea and Jordan River part? God’s presence was in Israel when they crossed
Psalm 115
Who asks where God is? The Gentiles (non-Israelites)
Where is God? In heaven
How are the idols described? Works of men’s hands, silver and gold; mouths that can’t speak; eyes that can’t see; ears that can’t hear; noses that can’t smell, hands that can’t handle anything; feet that can’t walk; they can’t make a sound
Who are like them? Those that worship and believe in them
What is Israel told to do? Trust in the Lord and bless the Lord
What will be the result? The Lord would bless them and their children
