Answers to April 8 Questions

Why did Elimelech go to Moab? There was a famine in Judah

Who were his wife and sons? Naomi his wife, and Mahlon and Chilion

Who were his sons’ wives? Ruth and Orpah

What happened to Elimelech and his sons? They died

Who wanted to go with Naomi? Both of the daughters-in-law, but Ruth persisted on going with Naomi

What did Ruth say to Naomi?

"Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.
17 Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
The LORD do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me."

How did Naomi know that Ruth found a good place for gathering grain? Because she brought back an unusual amount for one day

What did Naomi tell Ruth to do? Stay to work in that field and no other

What did Ruth ask of Boaz? To be her kinsman redeemer

What was his answer? He praised her virtue; he explained there was a closer relative than he, so he promised to fulfill this responsibility if the other man would not; she would be secure

What potential obstacle might prevent the marriage of Boaz and Ruth? A relative other than Boaz had the opportunity/responsibility to be the kinsman redeemer for Elimelech’s family; if he were to take his field and estate, including Ruth as wife instead of Boaz
