Answers to April 5 Questions

What requirements were given to Manoah’s wife when she was told she would have a boy? Not to eat anything unclean, not to eat grapes, nor drink grape juice nor wine; her child would be a Naririte from birth

Who talked to Manoah and his wife? The Angel of the Lord

How did Manoah’s wife show more wisdom than Manoah after the Angel of the Lord appeared to them and spoke to them? He was afraid they were going to die for seeing God; she observed that would defeat the purpose of His visit

Who was Manoah’s son? Samson

What was unusual about him? He had long hair as a lifetime Nazirite; he had miraculous strength

What kind of woman did he marry? A Philistine

What riddle did Samson tell the Philistines?

"Out of the eater, something to eat;
out of the strong, something sweet."


How did the Philistines get the answer to the riddle? They threatened to kill her and her family with fire is she didn’t get the answer from Samson

What happened to Samson’s wife? She was given to the best man at the wedding

How did Samson get revenge? He set the Philistines’ fields on fire by tying hot firebrands to the tails of 300 foxes

How did the Philistines get revenge? They burned his wife and her father

How did Samson get his revenge for that? He killed many, but the Philistines went to Judah to get Samson; they sent Samson bound with two new ropes which did not hld him, so he killed 1000 more Philistines with a donkey’s jawbone

Who was hired to betray Samson? Delilah

What did the Philistines do to Samson? They cut his hair, bound him, put out his eyes and made him a prisoner

How did Samson’s power return? His hair eventually grew long again

What was Samson’s motive for destroying the temple of Dagon? To avenge his loss of sight
