Answers to April 11 Questions

Why did Israel ask for a king? They didn’t want Samuel’s sons being judges because they were dishonest

Why was Samuel displeased with their request? He felt they were rejecting him

In fact, whose leadership was Israel rejecting? God’s rule

What warning did Samuel give them about having a king? He would conscript some to be soldiers; girls would be made servants; he would impose high taxes and take the est of their fields, olive orchards, vineyards, etc.

Who became the first king of Israel? Saul

What was he doing? He was looking for his father’s donkeys

Why did he come to Samuel? To seek advice on where to go

How did Saul react when he heard what Samuel said? He was from the smallest family of the smallest tribe in Israel, so he was surprised that Samuel said he would be king

How did Samuel ordain Saul as king? He poured oil on him and kissed him, then he gave him instructions where to go until a week later where he would be publicly coronated

Where did Samuel send Saul? To Bethlehem

Who would meet with Saul there? Two men

Then where did Samuel tell Saul to go? To the terebinth tree of Tabor
