Answers to June 12 Questions

Who was helped with the oil in all the jars they could find? A widow of one of the prophets

What did the Shunamite woman do for Elisha? Fed him whenever he came through, then built a room and furnished it for him to stay while passing through

What did Elisha offer to do for her? Anything she asked

What did Elisha promise her? A son a year from then

What happened to her son? He died

What did Elisha send Gehazzi to do? Take his staff, run to the boy’s house and lay the staff on the boy’s face

How did Elisha raise him from the dead? He lay upon the boy until he revived

Who made the stew for the prophets? Gehazi

What was wrong with it? Someone had picked some wild gourds and cut them up into the stew

How did Elisha make it good? Added some flour

How did Gehazi react to Elisha’s command to give 20 loaves to 100 men? He did not think it was enough

What was the result? Elisha promised it was enough and some left over, and it happened that way

Who was Naaman? Leader of Syria’s army

Who expressed the desire and possibility of a cure for Naaman? An Israelite slave girl captured by the Syrians who served Naaman’s wife

Who did Naaman talk to about this? His king for permission to go to Israel

To whom did the king of Syria send a letter about this? The king of Israel

What was his reaction? He tore his clothes being so upset thinking that the king of Syria was asking for a fight since there was no cure for leprosy

What message did Elisha send to the king of Israel? Send him to me and he will know there is a prophet in Israel

What did Elisha do to cleanse Naaman? Sent a messenger to the door to tell Naaman what to do

What did Naaman have to do to be cured? Immerse himself in the Jordan seven times

What was Naaman’s first reaction to Elisha’s instructions? Anger because he expected the prophet to perform a magnificent show

Who convinced Naaman to simply do what he was told? His servants

What did Naaman want to do for Elisha after he was cleansed? Give him a reward

What was Elisha’s answer? “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.”

What did Naaman promise to do in Syria? Not to worship any other god than the Lord

What did Gehazi decide to do? Get something of the reward that Naaman had brought

How did Elisha know what Gehazi did? By the Holy Spirit

What punishment did Gehazi receive? He received Naaman’s leprosy (he violated Lev. 14:8)

What miracle did Elisha do for one of the prophets in chapter 6? He recovered a borrowed axe head that fell into the river

How did God help the king of Israel many times in his war with Syria? He had divine knowledge where the Syrians would camp to attack, and Elisha would warn the king of Israel

What other help did God give Israel but Gehazi was blind to it? The armies of God were with Israel

Who was stricken with blindness? The army sent to capture Elisha Why? So they could be led to Samaria to be totally surrounded

What did Elisha tell the king to do with the captives? Feed them and give them water

What was the result of God’s kindness? They stopped attacking Israel

Who besieged Samaria? Ben-Hadad of Aram (Syria)

Why did a woman complain to the king? She wanted justice; two women made an arrangement to eat her child first, and then the other woman’s child next, but the other womon hid her child and reneged on the deal

What reaction did the king have to this event? He tore his clothes and swore to take it out on Elisha by cutting off his head

What good news did Elisha promise the king? Within 24 hours, the price of food would be much lower

Who doubted this prophecy? The assistant to the king

What dilemma did the four lepers have? To sit outside and die or surrender to the Syrians and hopefully get some food

What had happened to the Syrian army? An angel of the Lord caused a noise so that they assumed that Israel had hired the Egyptians and Hittites to attack them, so they fled, leaving everything behind

What did the lepers do at first? They started gathering whatever they could

Why did the not keep the good news to themselves? They feared punishment for not sharing good news

Did the king believe the lepers? No, so a scout patrol was sent out and confirmed the fleeing of the Syrians

When people heard the Syrian army was gone, what did they do? They rushed out to the Syrian camp to get food

What happened to the man who doubted Elisha’s prophecy? He was crushed in the rush at the gate
