Answers to June 10 Questions

What did the king of Syria want from Ahab? Everything, gold silver, his wives and children

What is the meaning of verse 11? You shouldn’t boast before a fight; only after winning are you in a position to boast

What did God promise Ahab through a prophet? God would deliver the enemy multitude into Ahab’s hand so that he would know who is the true God

Why did Syria want to fight Israel on the plain instead of the hills the next year? They foolishly thought that the gods of the plains would favor them whereas the gods of the hills favored Israel

Why did God give Ahab the victory? To show that is the only true God over all things and prove He is not limited to power over a specific area as the Syrians believed

Why did Ahab spare Ben-Hadad? He said he was his brother

What agreement did they make? Syria would restore the cities taken by his father and they established a trade agreement

What happened to the man who did not hit the prophet? A lion killed him for not obeying

Why did the prophet ask to be hit? To appear that he was injured in the battle

What message did he give Ahab? Just as he had to pay for the man he let escape, Ahab would pay for sparing Ben Hadad when God had committed him to death

How did Ahab feel after he heard this? Sullen and displeased

Why did Ahab want Naboth’s vineyard? For a vegetable garden close to his house

Why did Naboth refuse to sell it to Ahab? It was wrong to sell his inheritance

What did Ahab do then? He went home and pouted

What did Jezebel do? She got false witnesses against Naboth so that she could take his vineyard away

What was the accusation against Naboth? Blasphemy against God and the king

What did Ahab do when he heard Naboth was dead? He went to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard

What message did Elijah give Ahab because of Naboth’s death? He would have no heir (no inheritance), dogs would lick up his blood where they licked up Naboth’s blood, Jezebel’s body would be eaten by dogs at the wall of Jezreel

How did Ahab react to this prophecy? He mourned and humbled himself

What effect did this have on God’s punishment of Ahab? He did not bring the destruction in his day but in his sons’ day

What was the difference between Ahab and Jehoshaphat? Jehoshaphat believed in God; Ahab believed in Baal

What did all the prophets advise in the fight for Ramoth Gilead? Take it because God would give them victory

Who was the only one who spoke for the Lord? Micaiah

How did he explain the work of the false prophets? A lying spirit volunteered to lead the false prophets to lie in order to convince Ahab to go to battle so he would die according to God’s will
